Guildford youths: “Try something new today”
Are you bored, have no where to go in the evenings, weekends or holidays. Are you looking to join a new club, broaden your knowledge, have fun or simply looking to meet new people?
If you can answer yes to any of the above then you should come along to the Guildford Youth Day on Sunday 8 March in the George Abbot Public House car park in Guildford Town Centre between 10am – 3pm. The event will be attended by the Guildford Neighbourhood Policing Team as well as Community Safety Wardens from the Safer Guildford Partnership which has provided some of the funding.
The event is free to enter and there will be free use of an amazing climbing wall as well as live music throughout the day supplied by ACM in Guildford. There will also be refreshments available to buy.
A whole host of youth organisations and clubs will also be on hand to advertise the sort of activities they can offer young people and the type of opportunities available. The ACM Gospel Choir started off by joining an evening club at the academy and now look where they are! Other organisations attending include the Sea Cadets, YMCA, Guildford Youth Council, Surrey Wildlife Trust and many of the borough’s Youth Clubs.
The event is specifically aimed at 10-14 –year-olds but anyone else who wants to attend will be very welcome. The day is also for parents to come along and see what activities and clubs are available for their children to get involved in.
PCSO Charlotte Killick who is organising the event along with Andy Coumbe, Community Safety Warden for Guildford Town said: “There’s no excuse for being bored when there are so many clubs and activities available in the borough to suit all abilities and ages. This event will highlight what’s on offer and point out that the activities don’t always come at a huge cost or commitment. Encouraging young people to participate in clubs and societies at a young age can open up all sorts of positive skills and opportunities in later life.”
