Community spirit comes alive in Westborough & Park Barn
30 Mar 2009

The re-launch of the local newsletter: Grassroots News, saw Park Barn and Westborough come alive with community spirit when residents put on their walking boots and came forward to help with the distribution of 4,000 copies.

Grassroots News is a local paper, containing lots of information about activities, groups, contacts and exciting things happening in the area.

Community Development Worker, Kerstin Lang, said “It was a wonderful experience to see so many people being actively involved in their community and working together on a united project”.

Grassroots News will be delivered in the Spring and Autumn each year with a variety of subject features and local contributions of articles are very welcome.

Guildford Borough Council’s local Community Safety Warden, Tracy James said: “People feel strongly about the area and happily offered help. Offering ownership and being able to actively get involved gives people a sense of achievement and pride”.

Feedback suggests already that the overall content and community Calendar information has been well received and future feedback and comments will help with the features and information for Autumn 2009.

Richard Musgrove, part of the editorial team mentioned: “Park Barn and Westborough is blessed with a large number of residents willing and able to help local groups.

“We would like to say thank you to all residents, community groups, partners and members of St. Francis and St. Clare’s church for their support. Without you it never would have been possible.”
