How were they chosen?

How were they chosen?

You chose our current projects: residents and businesses across the borough. We realise that to make people feel safer, we need to make sure we are tackling the things that matter to them. We felt the best way to do this was to ask people what they wanted us to do.

Every three years, we carry out a Fear of Crime Survey in the borough. This does exactly what is says; it asks residents and businesses how they feel about crime across the borough. We do this to find out the issues that are important to you - the issues that affect your perception of safety in your community. We then combine this information with other data, such as local police crime figures, complaints about noise and nuisance, drug referrals and school exclusions. This helps us to compare actual crime with perceptions of crime.

All of this information helps to highlight the common issues that cause concern. Project groups are then set up to tackle each of these issues.

We consult with you all the way through the process, making sure that we have got projects set up to tackle the right issues. Once the community is happy with our project group suggestions, we begin our work for the next three years.

Each project has a team working to achieve certain objectives. The teams are made up of people from the Partnership, and also include voluntary organisations and individuals who can offer something towards achieving the targets. They regularly have to report on their progress to an Executive group made up of senior members of the Partnership.
