Your Shout
In November 2006 various agencies and young people were gathered together, by Surrey County Council, at Kings College in Guildford to talk about the needs and expectations of young people. One of the main things to be heard from the young people that night was a repeated request for safe music gig nights. The young people wanted somewhere to go where they were safe, could listen to the kind of music that they wanted to listen to and also dance as well.
That night, out of the wishes from the young people, the Your Shout Under 18 gig nights were born. Sgt Tina Griffiths from the Safer Guildford Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnership together with two young people who were present that night, Madaline Cummins and Kirsty Cooke, planned the concept of the Your Shout Under 18 gig night. With the help of A/PS Mark McGovern and Rik at Time Nightclub in Guildford the first under 18 gig night was booked for just before Christmas. The idea was to try to encourage as many people as possible to attend and in an attempt to make it as inclusive as possible. The tickets went on sale at some of the schools in Guildford for just £2.
On the evening of the 20th December over 250 young people aged between 13 and 18 attended the gig night at Time Nightclub. The event was so successful that on the same evening a further gig night was booked. The second event was a Valentines event on 13th February 2007 and this time over 350 young people attended. Check out the website below for the date of the next gig.
Due to the lack of pre-event tickets sold we will not be selling tickets at the schools anymore. All tickets will be sold on the door for £3.
The next event will be organised shortly so please keep checking the website for dates.
